Meet the SPVA Coaches!

Coach Kris

Hobbies and Fun Facts:  I love Volleyball! I have had the pure pleasure to watch both of my daughters play volleyball throughout high school, and then to have them go on and play basketball and volleyball in college. I also love horses. I own 7 of them.

Coaching:  I have coached ages 3rd grade-high school. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and excitement for the game. I love to watch young girls grow into confident young ladies through the sport I love. I preach communication and teamwork. Volleyball is a team sport through and through.

Experience:  I played volleyball in high school and college. I do hold our high school record for the most aces in a season. I have coached for 13 years. I am currently the JV head coach/assistant coach @ Mankato East high school.

I am super excited for the JO season with SPVA!

Coach Anna

About me/Fun Facts:  I am a retired Social worker and a current SAHM to 4 (soon to be 5!) little ones. I thrive in chaos! I love to travel although that has been scarce these days and I love history stuff (especially WW2). I took piano lessons for 13 years and still play on our Baby Grand.

Coaching:  I started out coaching at Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsteds in their JO program for 5 years. After moving, I worked with New Ulms JO program for the last 5 years. I enjoy passing on my knowledge and experience of the game in a fun yet educational atmosphere!

Volleyball Experience: I grew up in a basketball family, and didn’t pick up volleyball until my later middle school years. I played for 4 years at Blaine High School as a Bengal. After that I went on to play Division 2 at Bemidji State University as their Middle Blocker. Every year that I played I experienced a different head coach with different expectations. This has given me a perspective and appreciation for volleyball in a unique way.

Coach Gemma

Hobbies and fun facts:   My hobbies include sailing, skiing and of course volleyball. A fun fact about me is I have never had a brain freeze.

Coaching: I enjoy sharing my knowledge and experience of volleyball and I hope to help my athletes develop their volleyball skills and themselves as people.

Volleyball Experience: I played for 4 year at Minneapolis Southwest High School and 4 years at Club 43 in Hopkins MN. I then continued my volleyball career at Gustavus where I am now a senior.

Coach Sarah

About me: I am a junior geology and environmental studies major at GAC and am particularly interested in paleontology. My hometown is Blaine, MN and I grew up commonly visiting the St. Peter/Mankato/Garden City regions as my mom grew up around here and went to GAC too.

Coaching philosophy: I am all about promoting a positive environment conducive for both learning and being comfortable making mistakes as you learn. My gym is filled with encouragement and passion for the game, and I look forward to sharing that with my team this season!

Hobbies & fun facts: A favorite hobby of mine (that I now hardly have time for) is reading any of the 100s of books I have on my to-be-read list or starting pick up volleyball games with the coed intramural volleyball team I put together.

Volleyball experience: I started volleyball in 3rd grade and had my last competitive season during my 18s club season. I played at MN Premier for my 14s-17s years and Crossfire for my 18s year. I have played every single position and ended as a DS (my passion still lies with serve receive and digging!). I was also a student manager on staff with GACVB during the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
