Coach Anna

About me/Fun Facts:  I am a retired Social worker and a current SAHM to 5 little ones. I thrive in chaos! I love to travel although that has been scarce these days and I love history stuff (especially WW2). I took piano lessons for 13 years and still play on our Baby Grand.

Coaching:  I started out coaching at Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted's in their JO program for 5 years. After moving, I worked with New Ulm's JO program for the last 5 years. I feel it’s so important to not only learn about volleyball, but how we can be good teammates off the court as well. Cheering on your teammates and encouraging them to be successful helps the whole team become a strong unit. I enjoy passing on my knowledge and experience of the game in a fun yet educational atmosphere!

Volleyball Experience: I grew up in a basketball family, and didn’t pick up volleyball until my later middle school years. I played for 4 years at Blaine High School as a Bengal. After that I went on to play Division 2 at Bemidji State University as their Middle Blocker. Every year that I played I experienced a different head coach with different expectations. This has given me a perspective and appreciation for volleyball in a unique way.

Coach Britt

About me: I grew up in St. James. After graduating from STJ HS, I attended Iowa Lakes Community College and graduated from Bethany Lutheran College with a bachelor's degree of finance.  I currently work at Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV) as an Intake Specialist. MACV's mission is to End Veteran Homelessness in Minnesota. I reside in Mankato with my husband, Don, daughter Zandra and huskies Binion, Riveria and Fremont.

Coaching philosophy: I LOVE coaching and I mean it!  Watching the growth of a team/player is so rewarding. That is what I strive for, the improvement.  My players work hard and listen. We run to our positions. We build the team up, not break them down.  My players work as a team and succeed.  Mistakes will happen and that is okay. I emphasize to my players that we learn from every mistake we make on and off the court. How else will you learn? I have been coaching off and on for 20 years. I coached in my hometown's JO program, B Squad at the high school level and most recently at Southern Extreme Volleyball. When I was not coaching, I was a personal volleyball trainer and camp coordinator.

Volleyball experience: I can honestly say that I have been playing volleyball most of my life. When I was young, I would either attend my mom's 7th grade practices or my aunt's varsity practices. Coaching and playing has been in my family's blood for decades. I unfortunately did not have the opportunity to play for my mother, as I was on C squad in 7th grade. I had the opportunity to play varsity as a sophomore, with my sister being a senior. Not sure who liked that more. I attended Iowa Lakes Community College on volleyball and academic scholarship, and my position was Libero for those two years. I was then recruited to Bethany Lutheran College for my junior and senior year. My high school varsity coach was Bethany's coach at the time. It was an absolute thrill to play for her again and be the first senior captain in BLC history to play volleyball. I still play volleyball with my girlfriends for women's rec league, and also with my husband in coed rec league.

Hobbies & fun facts: I enjoy volleyball way too much. It is my happy place. When I am not watching, coaching or playing, I enjoy time with my family and dogs. We enjoy the water in the summer and a good tv series in the winter. Super fun fact - my sister and I share the same birthday, exactly two years apart. Some might say great planning on my mom's part. I have also built a hitting apparatus in our garage so we can play volleyball year-round.

Coach Kari

Coaching Philosophy & Experience: I have coached volleyball for over 20 years and relish in watching skill and character development. My coaching experience ranges from elementary through varsity. Playing volleyball has taught me many lessons that I carry with me today.  We are going to work hard and have fun!

Hobbies/Fun Facts: If I am not working on a craft project, attempting to keep my houseplants alive, I am teaching my four kids and chasing our two furry toddlers. I enjoy creating jewelry and working with children.
